Can Opener

It has been a few days since this took place, but its a great pic (thanks Pfil) showing the scope of the work we are doing on the house. As you can see, the back half of the roof is gone. The carpenter spent a majority of the day on Monday cutting this part of the house off so he could rebuild it on Tuesday. The goal here is to make the back of the house level and contiguous and the same with the roof line.

I wasnt there to experience it, but I was told we had an incredible storm replete with torrents of rain and high winds on Tuesday morning. Perfect timing. The good news is there was no long term damage to the house, or anything that prevented the carpenters from getting back to work once the rain relented.

Meanwhile, the concrete company has started excavating the footings locations in the basement and are pouring the cement for the footings that will bear the support for the new steel beam, the wet wall on the west side of the house, and the main support posts for the stairs. Once this is done today, they will cure over the weekend, then the plumber and concrete company - two brothers - will begin the excavation of the rest of the basement while digging the trenches for the drain tile and the underground plumbing.

Monday is going to be a big day with four different sub-contractors working on the house. I am going to be meeting with all of them on Monday to make some decisions on things that have come up through the process.

Once I am back in town, I will get some pictures up for what the back of the house is looking like now.
